Modern Languages
Why study Modern Languages?
Learning other languages enables children and young people to make connections with different people and their cultures” (LTScotland)
Learning languages contributes to mutual understanding, a sense of global citizenship and helps pupils become more confident, independent and creative. By making comparisons, pupils gain an invaluable insight into their own culture, society and language, which, in turn, supports the development of literacy skills in their own language. The ability to understand and communicate in another language is a lifelong skill for education, employment and leisure in this country and abroad.
The Modern Languages Department are a very enthusiastic and proactive team from a variety of backgrounds. We have all spent time in the country whose language we teach (Germany, Austria, France, Spain, Italy & Denmark, etc) and draw on our experience to deliver our lessons. Whether our pupils are in S1 or S6 we ensure the highest standard of teaching and learning are provided for. This is especially important while in this transitional phase between Standard Grade / Higher courses and the new Curriculum for Excellence.
We are committed to deliver the curriculum in the most exciting, engaging and relevant manner in order to achieve the most enjoyment and best possible results from our pupils. We enjoy working closely with other departments, businesses and organisations so that our pupils develop skills to become confident individuals, successful learners, responsible citizens and effective contributors.
We offer a wide-range of extra and cross curricular courses regularly so that pupils can benefit from learning additional skills within the context of a foreign language setting. We are also in the process of delivering courses & homework online using GLOW. Pupils need their GLOW login for this.
