When providing snacks for your child, remember that we have a number of children who have allergies and advise snacks containing nuts, such as Snickers bars, satay sticks, etc.  Many thanks for your help with this.

Rookie Rockstars
Rookie Rockstars

As you will know from recent newsletters, our focus this term is on various aspects of Health and Wellbeing. During the middle block, there will be a specific spotlight on anti-bullying. To support the children’s learning in this area we have enlisted the help of an organisation called ‘Rookie Rockstars’. This will give children the opportunity to work with professional musicians and singers to learn original songs, record a CD and perform in a concert.

The group will work with all children from P.1-7 between Tuesday 31st May – Friday 3rd June, culminating in two concerts at 7pm on the evenings of Monday 6th June and Tuesday 7th June.

·        Monday 6th June               Families A-Lal

·      Tuesday 7th June               Families Lan-Z

Tickets cost £5, two tickets per family, and are available from the school office.

On whichever evening the children are performing, they should arrive at Dumbarton Academy between 6.30-6.45pm and assemble in the dining hall (this is adjacent to the main hall where the performance will take place). Staff will be on hand to supervise the children.

Children can wear anything they like; whatever they feel comfortable in. Jeans and t-shirt are fine! They can dress/or accessorise on a rock theme but this is completely optional.

Athletics Final

The West Dunbartonshire Sports Hall Athletics Finals took place on Thursday 21st April in the Playdrome, Clydebank.  Ten teams from across the authority took part in a combination of track and field events. Our school was represented by 20 P6 pupils and we are delighted to announce that they came second! The team was awarded a silver plaque to display in the school and all received individual engraved medals. A huge well done to all those who competed!

The Wee Boxes have now been counted and put together with the other monies raised through the Pupil Council events, making a sub total of £900. This will be matched by the UK government so the grand total raised for SCIAF's Wee Box Appeal this year was £1800.  Well done everyone!

ECO Update
ECO Update

Through our weekly assemblies we have been informing all the boys and girls about our planned work for the next few months.  We have started to prepare our gardens for planting fruit, vegetables and flowers and this term we will be inviting all our classes to get involved with our Sunflower Competition.  Each class will be given sunflower seeds to grow.  The winning class will be the class with the tallest sunflower.  If you would like to get involved at home we are asking you to plant some sunflower seeds and to keep measurements of your sunflower.  We will be giving a treat to the winning class and family.

After Easter we will also be re-launching our Walk Once a Week (WOW) initiative.  We are asking you to get involved by encouraging your children to walk to school.  More details to follow.

As always we are still looking for more volunteers to get involved with our Eco Committee.  If you have any expertise or time you could spare to support us please contact the school office.

Parish News
Parish News

Congratulations to our Primary 4 pupils who recently received the Sacrament of Communion.  The children were a credit to the school and their families.

Already we are thinking ahead to next session and our current Primary 3s will embark on their programme of preparation for First Holy Communion with a Mass of Induction in the Parish on Saturday 21st May at 10 o'clock.  Primary 3s wishing to receive the Sacrament of First Holy Communion should attend this Mass.  At this Mass the children will be placed under the patronage of Our Lady, marking the start of a year-long programme of preparation.

School Gritting
School Gritting

At this time of year we often expereince severe winter weather.  Only last week there was heavy snowfall.  Please note the following information with regard to school gritting.  It is the the responsibilty of the Facilities Assistant (janitor) to maintain safe pedestrian access to and from the premises by salting the main pathway.  Where there is more than one pathway, the Facilities Assistant and Head Teacher should agree which 2-3 pathways are most commonly used.  In our school that is the pathway from Crosslet Road to the front door and from Crosslet Road to the infant doors.  Facilities Assistants have been advised that only priority paths are within their remit and that they should not be cleaning/salting car parks, playgrounds or pavements.  With this in mind please take due care when accessing pathways to the school in icy and snowy weather.

Get involved with Active Schools!
Get involved with Active Schools!

The West Dunbartonshire Leisure Active Schools Team work closely with all of the schools in the local authority and are always looking to create more opportunities for children to be more active, more often.

We are currently looking for enthusiastic parents to join our ever-growing network of volunteers and inspire the children and young people of West Dunbartonshire to get fit and have fun through extra-curricular sports clubs!

We are especially looking for parents to help with the St. Patrick’s Infant Activity Club on Mondays from 3-4pm but would also appreciate help with any other clubs running in the school. No previous skills or experience are required and full training and support will be provided.

If you are interested and can spare even 1 hour a week to volunteer with Active Schools in St. Patrick’s Primary School please contact Yvonne Macdonald, Active Schools Coordinator on 01389 753210 or email: yvonne.macdonald@west-dunbarton.gov.uk
