Design & Technology Department

The Design and Technology department occupies an area on the ground floor and consists of three reasonably sized workshops and two fully equipped Graphic Design studios. There are also two staff bases, a Principal Teacher's office and a Technician’s store.
 
The three workshops are fully equipped with all the relevant machinery and hand tools required for the Design and Technology curriculum. The two Design studios are well equipped with ICT. Each room has 20 desk top computers, 1 lap top computer, a scanner, an electronic whiteboard and the department also has one A3 colour laser printer. The department has recently purchased a laser cutter to implement CAD/CAM into the curriculum.
 
 
The staff complement in the department consists of:
 
  • Principal Teacher
  • 4 classroom teachers
  • 1 full time technician
  • 1 classroom assistant (4 periods a week)
 
Courses in S1,S2 and S3 follow the Curriculum for Excellence Framework and are a good foundation for further study in Design and Technology. The S1 - S3 course encourages the pupils to be much more creative and innovative.
In  S4 the department offers both Craft and Design and Graphic Communication at Standard Grade level.
Progression in S5 and S6 is encouraged with Intermediate 2 and Higher Product Design and Higher and Advanced Higher Graphic Communication and Practical Craft Skills at Intermediate 1 and Intermediate 2 level being offered in the choice form. In the main all courses have a big uptake.
The Department have forged close links with our associated Primary Schools with the introduction of a transition project for primary seven pupils.
 
Pupil work is displayed in both the classrooms and in the corridor allowing staff, pupils and visitors to enjoy the talents of our youngsters.
