East Renfrewshire Council Welcome to Eastwood High School

Guidance/Student Support

The Pupil Support Management Team consists of:

  • 5 Principal Teachers Pastoral Support
  • 1 Principal Teacher Support for Learning
  • 1 Principal Teacher Behaviour Support
The team is responsible for supporting the personal, curricular and vocational development of pupils, pupils with additional support needs e.g. learning and pupils with behaviour needs. By bringing the three support departments together we are able to ensure that an integrated approach is taken to supporting all pupils in order that they may participate fully and gain maximum benefit from everything that the school has to offer. To aid this one Principal Teacher will take full responsibility for a caseload managing all of a pupil’s educational, behavioural and pastoral needs. He or she will be the single point of contact for their caseload and will work in close partnership with parents, staff and external agencies.

All members of the same family will usually be allocated to the same Principal Teacher Support. The Pupil Support Team welcome contact with parents and guardians and may be contacted by phoning the school in order to arrange an appointment at a suitable time during school hours or at a parents’ evening. Principal Teachers Support will be allocated a caseload that takes into account the needs of the individual pupil. For example, a pupil who has particular behaviour issues would be in the group managed by the Principal Teacher Support (Behaviour). There are seven Pastoral Care Groups:

Arran 1 Miss Highet
Arran 2   Miss Boyle
Arran 3   Mrs Rorison
Cumbrae 1 Mrs Sinclair
Cumbrae 2 Mrs MacGregor
Bute 1  Mr Griffin
Bute 2 Mr Keogh

WORK EXPERIENCE
All S4 pupils are placed for a week’s work experience in industry, commerce or with a service agency such as schools or hospitals. This has proved popular and beneficial as it gives insight into the industrial world. In some cases it has led to eventual employment or has aroused interest in particular careers not previously considered by pupils. Pupils taking the S Grade Social and Vocational Skills course have an additional period of work experience as part of their course. The Principal Teacher responsible for Work Experience is Miss Gayle McGeough.
