SUPPORTED STUDY

S3 EXAMINATIONS

Examinations for S3 pupils will begin on Monday 1st March. On 10th February pupils will be given a schedule detailing when all the exams take place and a copy of this can be found in the About Our School /Document Download Area of the website. Most exams take place in the Assembly Hall. If pupils do not have an exam then they attend normal timetabled classes.


ADDITIONAL IN-SERVICE DAYS

S4 REPORTS

S4 Reports were issued on Friday 22nd January. Pupils were also given an Options Booklet to assist in making choices for S5. In addition, letters regarding details of the Parents` Evening, including the Options Hour at 6pm in the Assembly Hall, were also issued.

S5/6 PRELIMINARY EXAMINATIONS

Pupils have been given a copy of their S5/6 Preliminary Examination Timetable which starts on Monday 1st February. An electronic copy of the timetable is available in the About Our School /Document Download Area of this website. Pupil and parents should please note that following recent changes to the national guidance on recording school attendance, all East Renfrewshire schools expect pupils to attend school as normal during prelim time. When pupils are scheduled to sit an exam, they should proceed to the designated hall or room to be supervised by the invigilation team. At all other times pupils are expected to follow their normal timetable where class work will continue.


S4 PARENTS EVENING

The S4 Parents Evening takes place on Wednesday 3rd February. Prior to the parent/teacher interviews which begin at 7pm, there will be a meeting from 6pm until 7pm in the Assembly Hall where senior school staff, the local authority Vocational Coordinator and the Careers Adviser will explain the options on offer for pupils as they move in to senior school.


S2 PARENTS EVENING

ENTERPRISE - S3 INDUSTRY AWARENESS DAY

All S3 pupils will be taking part in our Industry Awareness Event as part of the School`s Enterprise Programme on Tuesday 19th January. The event is designed to help pupils develop critical team working skills as well as their business acumen and creative skills.The School is very grateful of the contribution from various businesses and organisations who will be providing advisers for the day.

CAREERS EVENT REMINDER

Just a reminder that the PTA have organised a Careers Event for our pupils, parents and interested staff. It will be held next week on Monday 11th January 2010 in the Assembly Hall and Dining Hall from 7pm to 8:30pm.
The PTA run this event every 2 years and it was extremely successful last time with over 200 pupils and parents attending. It is important for pupils at this time of Option Choice etc to meet with representatives from various colleges, universities and work establishments.

Fearless and Crimestoppers need your help! We`re conducting a really quick test to help us categorise crimes for the new Fearless website for people aged 11 to 16, due to be launched in March 2010.

 

When live, Fearless will give young people access to unbiased information about crime, advice on what to do if they`re in trouble, and ways to report crimes safely and anonymously.

SCHOOL SHOW

The School Show, which will be performed at dates to be confirmed in June 2010, will be Annie. The School is keen to involve as many pupils as possible in the production. S4 WORK EXPERIENCE

PCTA CAREERS CONVENTION

Preparations are well under way for our annual Careers Convention organised by our PCTA on Monday 11th January at 7pm. This event brings representatives from Higher and Further Education as well as numerous employers to give careers advice to pupils and parents prior to the options process for S2 moving into S3 next year and for all pupils in S4, S5 and S6.

NEW SCHOOL FOR EASTWOOD HIGH

The entire school community is delighted that it was announced that Eastwood High School was to be one of fourteen schools in Scotland to receive a new building. Further details regarding timescale, etc. will be posted when information becomes available.


S1 ENTERPRISE EVENT

All S1 pupils will be taking part in our annual S1 Enterprise Event on Tuesday 27th October. The event is part of the school’s comprehensive Enterprise in Education programme aimed at encouraging pupils to understand the contribution they can make as citizens, both to society and the economy. The pupils will be undertaking tasks designed to test their team working skills as well as their talents.

Classes 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 will be taking part in the morning and then follow normal timetable in the afternoon, while classes 1.4, 1.5 and 1.6 attend normal classes in the morning and take part in the event in the afternoon.


S4 STUDY SKILLS

SUPPORTED STUDY - CARDONALD COLLEGE

Cardonald College are offering Higher Mathematics, Biology, English and Physics from 6-9 April. If any pupil wishes to go, they go to Mrs Sinclair and get an application.  A £5 deposit is required when enrolling but will be re-imbursed on the final day of attendance.


Vocational Programme

Pupils currently in S4 and S5 are in the process of making subject choice for session 2009- 2010. As part of the the wide choice of school courses provided, East Renfrewshire Council are also offering a wide variety of part time vocational courses at colleges such as Cardonald and Langside. Although information about these courses is available in the school, the full booklet is also available on line at www.eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk/vocational-programme.pdf

Applications to these courses are made through Pupil Support Teachers. This link is also in the Parents Section of the Useful Links section of this website.


S4 WORK EXPERIENCE

All S4 pupils should be taking part in a weeks work experience from Monday 9th February until Friday 13th February. All pupils require to have this arranged as soon as possible through Mrs Doherty, the acting Work Experience Coordinator. Mrs Doherty is available every lunchtime in room 311.


S5/6 PRELIMINARY EXAMINATIONS

HMIE REPORT ON EASTWOOD HIGH

SALT

Salt is a lunchtime club run by Christian pupils for S1 - S3 pupils. They meet every Thursday in Room 317 for games, discussions and talks. So come along to have your lunch, have fun and make new friends.
