As the senior students of the school, S6 are offered a wide range of certificated courses specific to their needs and an opportunity to take a leadership role within the school community.
In addition to the courses described for Fifth Year, some S6 only courses operate and also some "crash" Higher programmes of study. Students can continue to study subjects in which they were successful at Higher Grade (i.e. an A to C award) by taking Advanced Higher Courses. As with S5, a consultation interview is arranged for each student.Advanced HigherThese courses are well suited to students intending to enter Higher Education at University or College. They involve a considerable amount of independent study and the production of an individual dissertation or investigation. Advanced Higher courses are normally taught for between 2 and 5 periods per week with tutor time agreed dependant upon numbers enrolled on the course. All students are required to add significant private study time to this allocation. Recent uptake has included:English, Mathematics, French, German, Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, History, Modern Studies, Art & Design, Music, Computing, Information Systems.As with all option choices, the school can only provide courses for which there is sufficient staffing and viable student numbers.
