Pupils from Duncanrig Secondary School’s radio station, Radio Duncanrig were given full backstage access to the Shop EK Christmas lights switch on 12th November where the got to meet and interview the guest of honour, pop star and television presenter, Peter Andre.
Peter wowed the thousands in the crowd where he performed his massive hit, Mysterious Girl as well as a number of Christmas numbers before switching on the shopping centre lights with Santa. Radio Station co-ordinator Chris Gerrard explained “It was a great coup for the radio station to report from one of the biggest events that has ever been seen in East Kilbride. Peter Andre is one of the most well known media stars in Britain that to get full backstage access as well as interview Peter was a privilege”. Also performing on the day was Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist, Edward Reid and dance group, The Box from Sky 1’s Got To Dance.
After the performance, the young reporters were invited along to Peter Andre’s dressing room to interview the star. Chris continued ”the pupils got to enjoy the performance from the backstage, where the firstly interviewed Edward Reid as soon as he came off stage. He gave a great interview to the pupils”. Whilst the pupils were waiting to interview Peter, they got to rub shoulders with members of the professional media and interview them about their work including Knoxy from Clyde 1 and Sophie from celebrity magazine, No 1.
The pupils were then invited into Peter’s dressing room were they were given an exclusive interview. Chris continued “Peter was so friendly and he was great with the pupils. He was very down to earth and was very impressed with the professionalism of the pupils. After the interview, Peter was very complimentary of the pupil’s interview technique and he even gave them a few pointers. Peter also loved the station’s logo and strap line.”
S2 pupil Alix who interviewed Peter explained, “I still can’t believe I actually interviewed Peter Andre. As soon we went in the room, he went up to us and gave us big hugs and kisses. It was so much fun interviewing him and I am still so hyper from meeting him.” Chris Gerrard added “I was so proud of the pupils on the day; they were a real credit to the school. Everyone involved in the event were amazed with how professional the students were and to report from such a high profile event was an invaluable experience. I also have to say a massive thank you to Wave PR and, in particular Chris Bell, who arranged for us to report from the event.”
