Our School Library is an integrated learning resource centre. It is a valuable resource for all our staff, pupils and students and it is an integral part in the effective development and delivery of the curriculum. All members of the school community can access information from a wide range of sources. The library has an extensive range of written publications and audio-visual resources. There are also 4 PCs in the library which are linked into the school network allowing pupils access to all aspects of IT.
The Library is run by a qualified Librarian - Mr Doig - who liaises with departments to encourage use of the library, the emphasis being on the development of programmes, and transmission of skills, to facilitate the accessing and processing of information. Skills which help all pupils learn effectively underpin major curriculum developments; notably 5-14. He also has a vital role to play in stimulating and maintaining in the pupils, a reading habit.Mr Doig liaises closely with departments over resource needs and curriculum developments. Our librarian provides a cross curricular perspective, specialised knowledge of resources and knowledge of research methods. One section of the library is dedicated to careers material. This provides students with access to up to date careers information on occupations, Further and Higher Education. We are keen to encourage pupils to use the Library for their studies and for recreational reading. To facilitate this it is open at lunchtime and after school.Mr Doig is glad to give help and advice to pupils and students seeking it.
