Careers

For comprehensive information on careers and courses throughout Scotland check out the Continuing Education Gateway database PlanIT.

Careers Scotland provides free guidance and information to every school and individually to all pupils who are leaving school. Visit their website at www.careers-scotland.org.uk for more information.

All pupils from S1 to S6 receive Careers Education as part of the school’s Personal and Social Education Programme and Careers information is available to pupils of all years. Our Careers Library is located in the school Resource Centre and arrangements will be made to provide help and guidance to any pupil requesting it. Careers talks are arranged throughout the session.

We maintain a close liaison with the Area Careers Office. The Careers Service offers advice, guidance and information to pupils on future careers plans, ranging from employment and training to further and higher education. In order to do this, Careers Officers maintain links with employers and educational institutions to keep up to date with changing trends and qualifications.

The School Careers Officer works closely with the Guidance Staff and is available to all pupils in the school but concentrates mainly on pupils in the upper school (4th, 5th and 6th years).

The Careers Officer can also be contacted at East Kilbride Careers Office (telephone E.K. 225478).

Most of the work carried out in the school by the Careers Officer is via individual careers interviews and these are offered to all senior pupils. The Careers Officer also provides a time in school when any pupil can call in, without appointment, to discuss matters about their future. Times are obtainable from Guidance Staff. The Careers Service offers interest guides to help pupils reach a decision and group sessions to discuss specific career areas. Careers Exhibitions are also regularly organised, to which pupils are invited. For those pupils who intend to seek employment and/or training, vacancy details are displayed on the Careers Service vacancy board in school.
