Home economics is the field of study that deals with the economics and management of the home and community. It gives students a grounding in the study of many processes necessary for day to day living. Learners gain experience in a number of areas of knowledge and experience - technological, scientific, creative, aesthetic and social - and develop awareness of the interrelationships of these.
For example, they learn that planning and making a meal involves balancing several components. Learners gain an understanding of time, effort and skill requirements, and of making judgments about cash limits. They also learn how to meet needs through selection and skilful use of resources, including technological equipment.
The Home Econimics department is based in the main building of the Academy.
