West Dunbartonshire Council Welcome to Dumbarton Academy

House System

The House system at Dumbarton Academy was re-established in 2008, following consultation with the staff and pupils. The school community then voted on the names of the 4 houses. With Clyde, Fruin, Luss and Leven being the clear winners.

Each house has its own Head of House, a Principal Teacher of Pastoral Care. Two House Captains are appointed from the S6 Cohort, following the outcome of an application process.

Each house is located in a particular area of the school for registration. Clyde and Luss are in the Main Building along with part of Leven, the remainder of Leven and all of Fruin are located in the Extension Building. These register classes are arranged 'vertically' ie. they have pupils in them from every yeargroup. Familys are kept together in the same house and in the same register class. This mix of yeargroups is useful at various pupil planning stages and means that the yeargroups mix more the positive outcome of which can be easily seen around the school.

House assemblies are held in rotation with yeargroup assemblies. There are various ways that houses can accumulate House points and at the Awards ceremony the house with the highest tally of points is awarded the house cup.
