Hello, Wish it was 1972.............Ha! I wish we could all be back there - right now, this very minute! I'm guessing you might agree (I was in second year back in '72) Happy Memories......Jenny Auld (English) Mr. Valentine, also English if I remember correctly, and the inimitable Mrs. (Clanky) McDermaid in the Maths Dept...........(Bless!) Oh how I wish I'd given each of them the respect they so richly deserved...........Ahh well.............Anyway regardless of my "lack of commitment" during the sensational seventies life hasn't been too bad I guess, thanks initially to my interest in music. My penchent for all things vynil in those days helped me worm my way into Radio and Television during the early part of the eighties. Thirty years later, I'm still doing my thing.!!!!! Happy New Year to you all - Health and Happiness in the year ahead. Cheers Jim x

1966-1970 - Bobby Jamieson 18/01/2010 10:58:13
I attended Duncanrig from 1966 (bad year) to 1970. Fond memories of Ian Valentine and Dougie Smith (Maths), Wee Jenny (English), Mr Gold, (Geography), Enoch Kent in Woodwork, who also took the fitba team, and Bad Boab McDougall in P.E. who was not averse to pulling your sidelocks or raking his boot up the crevice of your backside. I worked in the Civil Service until 1979, tried my luck in Saudi Arabia for a while, then moved into the private sector, before turning 40 and emigrating to Canada in 1995. I now live in Oakville, Ontario, with my wife Janette MacDonald (herself a former pupil although quite a bit younger) and daughters Skye and Teah. Currently working in Shanghai, China for a few years, but we keep in touch with our many friends back in EK.

I live in Cologne,Germany and have been here since leaving school in 1971. I am married to German guy and have two children (19/13). Often wonder what happened to alot of my school friends - Eileen McGill, Lynn Murray, Linda McGregor, RonaldLaurie, Jim Robertson. I was on a school trip with some of these friends to Boppardin 1969. Maybe someone remembers. Miss Hamilton was one of the teachers on this trip. Other teachers I remember are Mr Valentine, Mr Prichard and Miss Auld. Anyone know what happened to Nigel Matthews. Just browsed through the website. I keep in touch with Bill Paxton who taught English in the 60`s. He ended up Headmaster (or whatever they call it nowadays) at Grangemouth High but to his delight he is retired and lives in Falkirk. Any news on James Jarvis Scott, English teacher in the early 60`s? I think he ended up in Dundee, all the best,

Having studied at the R.S.A.M.D., I taught in various schools, ending up in All Saints Secondary School, Glasgow, where I am Principal Teacher of Music. I wonder what became of such friends as Allan Richardson, Russell Malloch, Jennifer Cameron....? I had strong links with the music department - remember Mr. MacRae, Mrs. Kerr, Miss Stirrat? I had a break from teaching to be at home when the children were little, but have now returned to full-time teaching and am about to take up a post in the independent sector. I left school at end of S6 and studied Pure Chemistry at Strathclyde University for four years, obtaining an Honours Degree. I turned down the opportunity to do a PhD and instead opted for Post Graduate Certificate of Education at Jordanhill. I married Sheena Farish, also a Duncanrig FP, 19 years ago and we have 2 children, both girls aged 14 and 12. I have met Ian Valentine (ex- Maths teacher) and Dr Jamieson (Chemistry) - cant remember his first name- and John(Ian?) Mitchell (Mod Langs) in my travels as a teacher. Also, I taught briefly with Mrs Spence (Chemistry) when she worked as a cover teacher at Cathkin. I still play chess, take part in quiz competitions, and am a member of the local Choral Club - we sing classical oratorio and also perform stage musicals. However, I did meet my husband there - Tom Smith, who taught in the Chemistry department from 1968-73. We have been married for 30 years and have 2 sons. Tom went on to fill promoted posts in Currie High School, Morgan Academy, Arbroath Academy and latterly Keil School. I stayed at home to bring up our sons and then went back to teach at Keil School where we both spent many happy years. Tom is currently working for an educational trust and I am working part time for the National Trust.

1969-1974 - Alistair Gardiner 18/01/2010 10:58:13
Hi all, I’ll be the one that no one will remember I left school in 1974 having never really joined it. I attended regularly but I never really got to grips with that whole education thingy. I did something at the Glasgow school of art to do with jewellery, did my apprenticeship as a jeweller, started my own business in Glasgow and made my first million within 10 years (Aye right) scrub that last bit, business and me do not get on. I packed that in and moved into electronics and realised I needed education, I know I’m slow but I do get there eventually. So I did a systems & management degree. It looks good on the wall with my woodwork ‘O’level. I left electronics and got into heavy engineering for a few years. That didn’t last to long either. I joined the civil service in 2003 and its all true what they say about us Civil Servants I can’t really tell exactly what I do cause if I did I’d have to come round you all and kill you. I’ve never left EK and I still have some links with the old school. Me of all people now that’s irony…. My wife works in the school and I do some talks to the assemblies fairly regularly. It’s a real buzz standing in front of all that potential, and a real privilege as well. Occupation: Civil Servant

1969-1975 - Ailsa Baird 18/01/2010 10:58:13
I was the one with the really long hair, contemporary of Iain Macfarlane, Laura Tennent, David Henderson, Grant & Michael Duncan, Janice Newlands, Lorraine Lee....After being scared off from maths by Dottie Dermid and Mrs Cochrane I went off to Glasgow University to do Scottish History & Archaeology. North to Aberdeen for a year in 1979 and am still in the North East (altho I did live in Norway for a few years). Married, one son (18), widowed, living with partner, too busy to go out to work! Occupation: Housewife

1969-1975 - Billy Kirkpatrick 18/01/2010 10:58:13
I`m a former pupil of Duncanrig SS, very former, so former that I`ve lost most of my hair. I am currently residing/ working in equatorial Indonesia, Batam Island, just south of Singapore. My current job title is Project Coordinator, for an American oil platform fabrication company (J Ray McDermott S.A). I scraped through my early years at Duncanrig, then got rattled into shape in my latter years and entered what was Glasgow College of Technology. Ultimately I ended up in Strathclyde Uni (Civil Engineering) but have never really used any skills learned at university, it`s the qualification that counts not the subject. I`ve worked in Japan, Spain, China, UAE and Indonesia. I left Scotland with one suitcase and a set of golf clubs but now have a wife (Chinese), a daughter, another in the oven and 3.5t of household furniture. After 12 years of travelling we are now ready to settle down and live a semi normal life (I shall have to nail my feet to the ground) perhaps in Scotland but probably in Australia (weather`s better).

I have great memories of Duncanrig. Most notable are those of the School Shows, conceived, written, directed, produced, sponsored etcetc by (in no special order) Alison Bell, Anne Neilson and an unforgettable English teacher with a beard and a great sense of humour (Gordon McAllan). Those of us who were in those shows had no idea how lucky we were. I had my first `big break` playing "Sir Utterly Ghastly"(typecasting, some would say), opposite a natural scene-stealer, Alisdair Liddell (little ratbag!), in "A Knight to remember". wow.

I attended Duncanrig from 1972-76 and left with no more than 3 "O" grades (head was full of nonsense)Oh how I wish I had listened to those teachers who were so sensible but at that time "UNCOOL".My memories of teachers include:Mr Young(history);Mrs Hill (geography),Jenny Auld (english)-----Funny we all know her first name ! ;Miss Stirrat (music);and one of my favourites miss Purdie (geography) (fancied her something rotten!)My class mates included Ian Guille,Jim Clacker,Fraser Mckay,Jim Headley,Ross Macdonald and Davey Mcgavin. The girls I remember (and fancied) were:Margaret Lawson and Christine Young (used to go out with Christine then).I often wondered about the rumour that when the school was being built, the prefects were asked whether they would prefer a pool or a mural and they chose a "MURAL"??Can anyone enlighten me?Anyone who wishes to contact me can email me at norie@blueyonder.co.uk.Or they can contact me at the Casualty department at Hairmyres Hospital where I work as a charge nurse. With thanks. 1973-1975 - Sally ... Mayo 18/01/2010 10:58:13
now married and known as Sarah Mayo I was in the house of Drumclog and moved into Cathkin in my second year. I remember teachers such as Anne Neilson, Mr. Miller, Jenny Auld, Mr. Towndrill and a special English Teacher in my first year who I would dearly like to find, I think her name was Mrs. White, if not it could have been Mrs. English even. I can still remember her face but have trouble remembering her name. I didn`t do all that well in school except in her class I managed to get an AA. She was one of those rare Teachers who made you feel like you could, and under her supervision I did, as report cards will always tell the truth. I lived in leaward circle and attended Camberra Primary, we moved to the Westwood to Melbourne Avenue and I attended SouthPark Primary. (I hate that cartoon.) I remember Mrs. Love who was always a hip teacher and is now the Headmistress. I also remember Mr. Brown who was a fantastic Headmaster. I was very sad to see him move when I was there. Students that I remember are Sheila? Margaret O`Connor, Andrew Kerr (I dated his big bro. after leaving school Billy), Stephen Mulholland, Shona McKenzie, Yvonne Lyons, Irene Reid, Carole Reid (not related and her big bro.`s. Allan and Gavin who moved to Australia). Marion McBride. I have since moved to VA. USA and ironically have become a Teachers Aide. At Woodbrook Elementary. I have two children Heather 11 and Cameron 7 both born in the USA, but love their Scottish Roots and got to visit in 1996.I can`t believe how much East Kilbide has changed over the years.

Have had a partner, Robin (she`s a Kiwi), since 1994, and one result of this relationship occurred on 2 March 2000 with the birth of our daughter, Evelyn. Love the country, like the school, but would prefer the salary of a Scottish teacher. Still, can`t have everything, I guess. It really is a beautiful country with loads to do and see. Hope to get in touch with some old mates, now approaching the mid-40s! Occupation: Teacher

In 1B1 (Blantyre House) i remember my English teacher telling me what an idiot i was and how i`d never amount to anything. I loved geography (Mrs Hill and good old Murdo McIver) Blundered my way through Physics because i could only manage o level arithmatic ( Maths made sense 2 years later ) Left in `79 to work in fluvial hydraulics at the Hydraualics Reasearch Station Wallingford and studying Civil Engineering. Later moved into Nuclear Fusion at the J.E.T. project hosted by Culham Labs before settling down at Baring Brothers Merchant Bank for 11 years leading and managing technical staff dotted all over the globe, later after some highly successfull activity in mobile network solutions for Bell South Wireless I became Technical Director of a start-up in California. Sadly the horrors of 9/11 and the subsequent impact on the IT industry meant me having to me make 100`s of people in the UK redundant. I took a sabatical and moved to Spain to ride race tracks in Spain for a couple of years before becoming a journalist and professional motorcycle tester, I have written for and appeared in numerous magazines all around the globe. My "silly" hobby producing motorcycle action/stunt movies blossomed and I was comissioned to produce/publish several retail DVD productions and promotional material for use at International motorcycle shows and tourist boards in Europe ( we brits are still a bit anal about bikes tearing up our highways ). For my sins I now run a BMW dealership, its a very self indulgant way of getting to ride motorcycles at other peoples expense. Occupation: general manager

Hi, a quiet individual who probably isn`t remembered for much :o) I was in Drumclog. Favourite subject was French although better at German - had the advantage there though since I spoke German! Only saw this site as I was looking for the telephone number of the school to complete an immigration form and figured I might as well register my name - you never know who you might hear from. I think I was at Duncanrig between `74 and `79. I remember it as a mad place courtesy of several phsycotic students...if John D***y, any of The Allen and Paterson clan & "Simmo" are not locked up in Barlinie then I`m impressed boys. I remember many of the teachers mentioned by other former pupils. I salute you all. To poor old Mr Tom the french teacher, I hope you made it, God how you were persecuted. I`ve ended up in Perth Western Australia, 42 now in the software business. I feel much nostalgia for the old country, East Kilbride (where all my famly still reside) and some faint nostalgia for Duncanrig and East Milton before that. The teachers taught, the boys fought and the girls broke my heart. Occupation: Software sales

1974-1979 - Karen Reilly 18/01/2010 10:58:13
My name is Karen Reilly. It was Karen McTaggart back then and I attended Duncanrig from 1974 - 1979. My brother also attended Duncanrig (Billy McTaggart) but he was smarter than me, so I won`t talk about him! We stayed in the Westwood area, Bowden Park. I now feel really old as my son started Duncanrig today (Monday 20 August 2001). He also attended my old primary school at East Milton. Darren (my son) came home with his timetable which should familiar names such as Ms. Muir for Music (I was in the school choir until her ear drums could take no more), Mr Young is still there teaching History, Mr Valentine`s name was there too (a school trip to Holland and geese chasing me gave him a good laugh) but he`ll probably remember my brother better........because he was the family member born with the brain!!!!!!!!! I`s love to hear from anyone from the old days. Does anyone remember me, does anyone wants too??????? I`m now working as a Housing Director, ok, they haven`t found out that I`m not that bright yet! Give them time. I`ve worked in Housing for almost 18 years. I`m happily married to Tony, have been for almost 16 years. I`d love to hear from anyone who remembers me. Regards and Best Wishes Karen.

1974-1979 - Drew Scott 18/01/2010 10:58:13
Always curious what parts of the world other people ended up in. Let me know. Reading other profiles its amazing how much of this time of your life sticks in your brain. I was in Drumclog and looking back was quite a quiet individual. I was academic and with more ambition than i gave myself credit for at the time. I decided to go to university in Surrey and I remember being scolded by Mr Black at the time...`Plenty of good universities in Scotland.. what are you going there for boy!!!" Maybe true but i haven`t looked back since. Never lived in Scotland again since I left in 1979. Have lived all over the world and am now settled in the US ...for a while... Looking at friends reuinited.com there are many names listed I recognise but i retained contact with noone. I was not the center of attention at school but I was a twin and maybe people remember my sister more... let me know. Occupation: Software Specialist

Later joing MoD nad subsequently joined the Heath Service. Currently working as a Senior Manager based at Gyle Square, Edinburgh. My Daughter Sarah is in Third year with my youngest Daughter Nicola joining the school in August. Occupation: Engineering Manager

1975-1979 - Garry Borland 18/01/2010 10:58:13
I recognise a lot of names in the 1979 section however due to excessive living, I have long term memory loss - lol. I hated school, not the schools fault, it was just that I had already made my mind up what I was going to do with my life and education was just getting in the way. I left school xmas 1979. Took a job with Levi`s as an apprentice designer due to harrasment by my parents. I left in 1981 and moved to Edinburgh to try and get involved in music (well EK didn`t offer anything in an artistic sense). I joined a band in 1985 and signed a recording contract a year later and toured Europe and the UK for the next few years. I signed to Warner Bros as a songwriter in 1990 and continued in the music biz until 1997. I only joined a band to avoid work (in the normal sense) and to get girls, yes it worked. By 1997 I was completely burnt out. I lost interest in music and had to think seriously about my life. I did a degree in Business Information Tech and went off to work for one of the largest corporates in the UK, I still work for them now, they pay well however I`m not really cut out for this work thing! I have now turned into everything that I despised as a 1970s Punk Rocker. I have a large house in a village outside Edinburgh, I drive a Jag and I work for the man! I have never married, don`t have kids (sometimes life`s alright) but I am in a relationship of 10 years. This year I got itchy feet and started writing music again and would you believe it, at 43 I am involved in an area where guys my age should not be! Where I go from here I don`t know, I may just have fun until I drop. I rememeber a few teachers. One history teacher in particular who called me a `parasite` which my mother took exception too, I thought it was pretty accurate at the time. Mr Auld who could swing a mighty belt, he actually hit me so hard one time I passed out (wouldn`t I love to meet him now - I practice kick boxing). Mrs Stirrit(?), music teacher, the only teacher I had time for. She encouraged me to bring my copy of the Sex Pistols/God Save the Queen into class and she played right after Beethoven, what a babe (she had a beard you know). Todd Dunlop, I remember you mate. Your sister let me sleep under her bed at 15 years old when I ran away from home, tell her thanks, I have never forgotten. In a nutshell, I was an ass at skool, Punk Rock grabbed me and it became a life style choice and it had a mjaor bearing on my life direction. I`m a decent bloke now, honest. I`m a positive thinker and I care passionatly about the world. Let`s face it, I`ve spent more time writing this than I spent writing in class. Muchos Respectos! Occupation: Front-Line Operations Manager

I Attended Duncanrig (A1) from 1975 - 1980 (I Think!!). After leaving school, went to College in Glasgow, studing Computers. I then had several jobs in a computer Operations before moving in to a computer help desk, where I am currently Change Manager. I still live in East Kilbride (Whitehills), where my Boys attend Claremont & St Andrews (their choice) Duncanrig was very big at that time with a lot of huts behind the old block, I travelled down from Greenhills. Ballerup opened when I was in 3rd year I think. MY sister had to attend this new school, and in fact she now works there. I notice that the "new" block has been knocked down, and the old block is still there. The teachers I remember were Mr Young, and MR Wallace from History. They were great. MR Valentine & MR Laird (Maths), MR Simmons (RE), MR Rankin & MR Dalgleish (modern Studies), MR Auld (Art), Miss Gibson (brilliant teacher), Mrs Neilson, Mrs Muckerjee, Mrs Aitcheson, and of course Jenny Auld (English), Mr Gordon and DR freeland (Science), Mr Cowan, Miss Purdon, Mrs Hill & Mrs Allan(Geography), Mrs Land, Miss Hogg, MR Thom (Modern Languages), Mr Irvine & Mr Cowan (Technical), Mr McCrae and Miss Stirrat (music).I would love to hear from any old class mates.

Was just browsing when i should be working and fell upon this page. Thought i`d drop my name in in case there is anyone who remembers me or would like to get in touch. Since leaving Duncanrig i worked as a butcher for some years before moving to the channel Islands. I worked there for about six years and later moved to Denmark. I started education again in Denmark after a couple of years and acheived my Bacheleor in building konstruktion and arcitektur. I have worked a few years as a projekt manager designing glass facade structers. I am now employed in the danish public sector working with building regulations and laws. I am married and have a little one now. Occupation: Building Konstruktor

1975-1979 - Todd Dunlop 18/01/2010 10:58:13
Todd Dunlop I attended Duncanrig (Eaglesham House - E2) from 1975 – 1979, and a contemporary of such luminaries as Ian Shields, Graham Moncreiff, Billy Richmond, Ian Nisbet (Nizzy), Walter Fry, Gary Scott, Raymond Johnston, Jim Smith, Linsey Stobo, Joan Alexander, Sharon Wilson, Fiona Thorburn and Alan Franklin, (also detailed here). Lived in Leeward Circle (Canberra Primary) and then moved to the Greenhills between 2nd and 3rd year, but stayed at Duncanrig despite the presence of Ballerup (brothers and sisters went there). Didn’t perform to my potential at the time, leaving with next to nowt to join the RAF. Served at home and overseas, including the Falklands during the crisis but became a civilian once more in 1985. There then followed a period of unemployment and illness (leukaemia) - all better now - and finally got back into the run of things in the 90s. Amazingly, went back to Duncanrig during this time to polish off some Highers - should have paid attention first time round!!!!! Since then, higher education – youth worker - designer - sales manager - now currently a Lecturer at Motherwell College, where I am Course Leader for Architectural Technology. Incidentally, married to the wonderful Doreen and have three daughters - 16, 18 and 21 - yes, 21!! - and like Mr Franklin, currently residing in the Whitehills area of the town (since 1990) after many years globetrotting. Despite being on the end of a regular thumping due to my diminutive size and shy disposition, I have many fond memories of the old school. I did eventually sprout to a respectable 5’10” and overcame that awkwardness with self righteous arrogance!!! I have very positive recollections of a number of staff, Mrs Hill (Geography and Eaglesham House Mistress) who bent over backwards affording me every opportunity to make good my potential. Unfortunately, I knew better!! Also Mr David Young (History) who was still there when I went back as an adult, as was Mr Dalglish (Modern Studies). Also Miss Purdie/Purdon (??) (Geography - huge crush), Una Gibson (English - inspirational teacher) and of course the ubiquitous Mrs Munoz (French for 1st and 2nd year and then Registration for 3rd and 4th). Lots of others too many to mention - recognise many more staff names from the other Bios. I pass the old place now and again, without its plethora of huts, and of course no ‘new’ block and remember it bursting at the seams. Would be delighted to hear from anyone (staff or student) from a bygone era. Was in Cathkin house. Left to start an apprenticeship at the East kilbride training center in Nerston. Returned to the training center as an instructor from 1987-1989. Immigrated to Winnipeg, Manitoba in Canada in 1989....It was too cold so I moved to Richmond, British Columbia. I now work with computers related to the machining industry, mainly CADCAM and hardware sales.
