I attended Duncanrig from 1988-1992, my mum and I came from Canada to stay with some family and then eventually moved back to Vancouver. After completing secondary school, I went to college before working for the Vancouver Police as a civilian employee, working my way up to a role as Fingerprint Technician with BC AFIS. I then moved to Saskatchewan, where I now live with my wife and young son, with another on the way. I worked for the Saskatoon Police for a while but am now with the local health region. I still have lots of family in the Glasgow/EK area and many of my cousins also went to Duncanrig.

1988-1994 - Robert Sandlan 18/01/2010 10:58:41
After leaving my beloved home that was Duncanrig I went on to Glasgow University to study Computing Science. Unfortunately the pressure of trying to pass my elective of Astronomy proved to be to much and I am now being put through my HND Computing through my current work with the Department for International Development just around the corner from the school. I went from the usual student job of packing shelves in a local supermarket to looking after officers that I have sent out to the Caribbean, the Americas, Eastern and Western Europe. Whilst this job takes me from East Kilbride to London on a regular basis there is also the oppurtunities of working in the countries I am responsable for. Unfortunately the only trips that have came up recently have either been Kosovo, which would have been interesting, or Moscow which I didnt go on because I had just moved into my new flat with my girlfriend. One of these days I`ll get a trip that works out :)

1988-1994 - Catriona Adams 18/01/2010 10:58:41
I ended my 6 years at Duncanrig by going out on a high as Girls Captain, like my sister before me, and forging a great friendship with Annelies, our Dutch Exchange Student, which continues today. Did my Engineering degree and worked all over for a bit before settleing down in deepest darkest Gallowy with my Farmer Hubby, Graham in 2001. Since then I have had 3 kids, Libby, Callum & Duncan, who are harder work & more rewarding than any job. I do my bit on the farm, am very involved in Village life, and keep the old brain going researching the Cowie-Adams family tree - not a hobby and obsession. Occupation: Farmers Wife & Mum!!!! (ex Civil Engineer)

Although I swore I wouldn`t work in accounts after studying it...guess what, I work in accounts. I run the the accounts department for 2 nursing homes and a nursery in Bearsden which bizarrely, I really enjoy.

1989-1995 - Chris Sanderson 18/01/2010 10:58:41
At school I was known as Sandy. The highlights of Duncanrig for me were: 1. Breaking my arm in PE in 2nd year 2. Being involved in the Young Engineers club (shout out to Steven Smith and EJ Sadler) 3. Doing Art (hello Mrs Blain and Mr Draffan!) 4. Entering the Rig Rock concert in 1994. Can`t remember the name of our band, but it was me and Emma Jane on guitar, Scott Young (drums), Paul Ryder (bass) and Laura McCarthy (vocals). I think we did All Apologies by Nirvana and Into Your Arms by the Lemonheads. 5. Rig Rock 1995 - Band:Plump Friction, with Allan Lundy, Mark Lundy, Michael Mawhinnie and Steven Ewing. Highlight:psychadelic version of Kum Ba Ya!! 6. Boys Vice Captain in sixth year. Who can forget the school prom? 7. Doing Higher History with Mr Young. Left Duncanrig in 1995 and went to Glasgow Uni. Did MA(Hons) in History and Politics then a horrid IT post grad course. I now live in London and work for Royal Mail Group on their graduate training scheme. (No, I`m not a postman!!). Am currently engaged to my girlfriend Rebecca and will get hitched on my eventual return to Scotland. Still good friends with Chris Clough, Chris Cox, Allan Lundy, Fraser Fulton, Colin Brown, Laura McCarthy and Emma-Jane Sadler.

1990-1995 - Thomas Curry 18/01/2010 10:58:41
Hi folks - I`m not usually one for this kinda stuff, but I`ve got a couple of mins to spare so here goes: Well, hmm, yes I remember duncanrig rather well.. Jumpers for goalposts and so on.. I was a pupil from 1990 to 1995 when i left in 5th year, I didn`t fancy studying for a good while so I joined the RAF and was an electronics technician for 4 1/2 years. I got pretty bored with that so I left and did an HND in music technology just to try something different. I was a part time youth worker during that time and soon realised that working with young people was enjoyable, not to mention well easy! From there I got my current job as a resource worker for the princess royal trust working with young carers and I`m currently the co-ordinator of the service for South Lanarkshire. I`ll maybe get a degree one day.. You`ve been a great audience.. Occupation: Resource Worker

1990-1996 - Pamela Coles 18/01/2010 10:58:41
I attended Duncanrig for the full six years and thoroughly enjoyed my time there. I gained seven Standard Grades, seven Highers and two Sixth Year Studies in that time. I was also a member of the School Orchestra, where I played the clarinet, and a member of the School Skiing Club. In my final year it was an honour to be voted in as School Captain and I believe I fulfilled this role to the best of my abilities. I was also fortunate enough to be able to go on three separate school holidays to Italy, Paris, and France/Switzerland - all of which were a great deal of fun thanks to the teachers who organised them. I am now studying for an MSc in Astrophysics at the University of St Andrews. I am having a wonderful time here as I am enjoying being away from home for the first time and meeting lots of new and interesting people. I have successfully completed my first year now and so I look forward to future years and hope they will be just as much fun!

When I was at Duncanrig I was in the fantastic position of having my dad as the assistant head - lucky me! Still it wasn`t all bad - he left when I was in 5th year! Apart from that I enjoyed my time at the school (1990-96) and went on to Strathclyde Uni. to do Maths/Stats and Accounting! Such fun!! Fortunately I managed to get through that and it was so exciting that I am now trainee chartered accountant with PricewaterhouseCoopers. I just can`t get enough of the joy that is accountancy - hmmmmmmm not exactly!! Bizarrely enough there are three people from my year at school that work here also and someone from the year below me is about to start. That`s how good our school is!! Also, my dad was Mr Hart - an assistant head until he left in 1995 (I think it was `95 anyway) to go to Gleniffer high in Paisley (after 16 years at Duncanrig). He still works there as the Depute head. Occupation: chartered accountant

I was in Duncanrig only for one year (1993-1994) as a Dutch exchange student of the exchange organisation YFU (Youth For Understanding) wanting to get to know the Scottish culture and life. For me that meant that passing exams was only minor priority because in my own country I was already qualified enough to get into the course I currently do at University. From a social point of view my experiences from Duncanrig were more important. Although the difference in (school) culture (compared to my Dutch school) was very big and sometimes not easy for me to deal with I found that there were many people trying to make me feel at ease and there was always someone eager to help. The extra-curricular activities were also a great way to get to know the school better and to feel I belonged there as well. I am currently at the end of my third year of "Technische Bestuurskunde", which in English comes down to "Systems Engineering, Policy Analysis and Management" at the Technical University of Delft. I am making good progress so I will be able to finish this 4-year course in time. Through my experiences abroad in East Kilbride and at Duncanrig I am still very much into travelling; this summer I will do a project for KPMG, an accountancy and management consultancy agency in Curacao (the Carribean). Moreover I am able to cope with English books, which we often have to study in Holland, very well due to my experience with the English language ( I sat the Higher exam successfully).

Attended Duncanrig from 1993 to 1997 (2nd to 6th year). Was in Mr McNeil`s registration class... After school I went to Caledonian Uni where I graduated with Honours in Business and Information Management and enjoyed the student culture that is Glasgow. Had no idea what I wanted to do so went back and did an MSc/PgDip. Anyway, then worked at university as an IT tutor/IT Support for a couple of years, leaving for a few months to go backpacking in Australia. [January 2003: took some time out to go backpacking in Australia! Best time of my life. Spent 3 months touring the East coast, getting drunk, meeting new people, etc. and seeing the most amazing things ever! My advice: get out of East Kilbride, travel!] Now working for a company in Glasgow doing IT Support, have my own flat in Glasgow and a gorgeous girlfriend. Occupation: IT Support

Hi there. I left school on 4th June 1999 and started working on the 6th June 1999. I began as an office junior for a legal firm in Glasgow and moved on to work in Admin/Fundraising for The Price & Princess of Wales Hospice. I am now settled in my job at Weirs in Cathcart in the Sales Department and really enjoy it. My colleagues are a great laugh, mainly men and so there very little bitching. A great sociable bunch! ! Anyway, I don`t even know why I bothered to log on and enter my details as I really didn`t enjoy my time at Duncanrig. Leaving and going straight to work was the best thing I could have done, I am a totally different person to what I was back then. Hope those of you who remeber me are all well. I left the school in 2000 - and, contrary to popular belief its not always the wrong thing to do. Well, I will remain anonomys for now. When I left, I got a job with the Mortgage Advice Bureau where I was made redundant from in June. Since mid-July, I have worked at Abbey National HQ in Glasgow as a Customer Services Advisor/Customer Administrator. As a big fan of country music, I decided to record a demo tape of Dolly Parton`s: "I GET A KICK OUT OF YOU" AND "9 TO 5" and forwarded to (Music Row Records - of MCA Records) in Nashville - and they wrote that they would be interested. So that all thats happenin. So I am saving money to get to Nashville hence my anomynity - cause if you don`t see me on stage in a years time, well "I aint made it, but Lord knows, I`ve tried"...
